Globe and Mail Interviews MB CEO Steve Klein

Tuesday, September 23, 2008
Button-down firms want their MTV, too

Like many young job seekers, Julie Fortier was impressed by Scott Rankin & Gardiner’s website and its streaming employee testimonial videos.

Only Julie Fortier isn’t a job seeker – she’s a journalist writing for the Globe and Mail.

She recently interviewed MB CEO Steve Klein and SR&G Partner Lyman Gardiner about Gen-Y, the Internet as a recruiting tool, and what today's job hunters are look for. Some of the insights they provided can be read in an article feature entitled, “Button-down firms want their MTV, too.”

In October 2006, MB helped Scott, Rankin & Gardiner LLP create a compelling website and an employer brand that continues to outshine the competition. The Ottawa-based accounting firm uses streaming videos and employer branding strategies to attract some of the top new talent available.

Steve Klein said that one of the biggest shifts in recruitment strategies has been caused by Generation-Y’s entrance into the workplace. “That’s the generation going to the Web first,” he said.

As the Globe and Mail article points out, the key to SR&G’s success is differentiating themselves from the competition. The video testimonials from employees give potential candidates an excellent feel for the work environment that SR&G provides.

The new videos are “in hot demand,” Steve said.

As more and more baby boomers leave the work force, businesses are looking for ways to attract the best workers available, especially those from Generation-Y. Employer Branding and Streaming video production are just a couple ways that MB helps its clients attract the top new talent and get the edge they need.

The article includes relevant information and tips on employer branding and recruitment, new hiring strategies, video testimonials, interviews with job seekers as well as employer branding experts like Steve Klein. It has great info for both employers and those looking for their next career opportunity.
